AgenticAdvertising.org: Where Governance Isn't a Feature. It's the Foundation.

An AI agent is about to spend $50,000 on advertising. No human reviewed the plan. This is the default state of agentic AI without governance built in. AAO was founded to answer that question clearly.

You've heard "protocol" a hundred times. Here's what it actually means, how we got from VAST to OpenRTB to AdCP, and why the missing layer was never operational — it was strategic.

Why adagents.json is more expressive than ads.txt

ads.txt made supply-chain transparency possible, but it was built for a flatter world. adagents.json can describe the actual commercial shape of modern media: direct paths, delegated paths, placements, collections, countries, time windows, and governed inventory groupings.

Agentic Advertising is for Allocation

Programmatic advertising emerged to solve a specific challenge: determining which ad network would pay the most for a given impression. Yet premium publishers and brand advertisers face fundamentally different questions—ones more aligned with capacity-constrained markets like hotels or airlines. How should limited inventory or budget be allocated to maximize returns?

Agentic Advertising Has a Coordination Problem

AdCP and ARTF Aren't Competing — They're Complementary

AdCP and ARTF look like competing frameworks for agentic advertising — but they operate at entirely different layers of the stack. AdCP handles campaign-level strategy, negotiation, and measurement. ARTF optimizes the auction itself. Understanding the distinction matters.

Explaining preliminary injunction

This explainer covers the legal mechanics of preliminary injunctions in U.S. federal practice, tracing the Winter four-factor test, Rule 65 procedure, and the doctrine's evolution through eBay, Trump v. CASA, and other landmark cases. It then applies this framework to a string of 2025-2026 advertising and AI disputes, including Perplexity's Comet browser vs. Amazon, Nielsen's radio ratings policy, and state social media laws.

PPC Land

Explaining prompt injection

This explainer breaks down prompt injection, the attack where untrusted content is obeyed as instructions by language models, tracing its origin from 2022 disclosure through indirect injection, industry benchmarks, and defenses like instruction hierarchies and the 'Rule of Two.' It connects the vulnerability directly to advertising infrastructure, showing how agentic commerce systems, MCP-based media buying, header bidding, and AI shopping agents are exposed to manipulation via reviews, ad creatives, and tool responses.

Amazon loses injunction blocking Perplexity's AI shopping agent

The Ninth Circuit vacated Amazon's preliminary injunction against Perplexity's Comet AI shopping assistant, ruling that the human user, not the AI agent or Perplexity, is the party 'accessing' Amazon's computers under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and California's parallel statute. The court found Amazon unlikely to succeed on the merits and that irreparable harm, equities, and public interest all favored Perplexity, leaving Amazon's terms of service, technical detection, and negotiated commercial interfaces as its remaining tools against uninvited agents.

PPC Land

Explaining microm

microm is a German geomarketing company, part of the Creditreform group, that licenses small-area statistical profiles (like the proprietary PLZ-8 grid of ~83,000 cells) rather than individual-level data, letting advertisers target areas based on inferred purchasing power, milieu and lifestyle attributes. As cookies decline, microm's cookie-free spatial data is being pushed directly into programmatic systems, most recently via a September 2026 integration with Azerion's Hawk DSP.

PPC Land

Explaining revenue per session

Revenue per session (session RPM) divides total revenue by visits rather than pageviews or impressions, exposing how ad density can inflate page-level metrics while destroying overall session value. The metric's rise tracks collapsing pageviews from AI search summaries, with Teads now building its EngageOS auction system around predicted session revenue instead of impression-based bidding.

PPC Land

Explaining header bidding

This piece traces header bidding from its origins as a workaround to Google's post-DoubleClick waterfall dominance through its standardization via Prebid.js and Prebid.org, up to its current entanglement in antitrust rulings, duplication/volume disputes, and emerging agentic buying tooling. It closes by noting Prebid's 2026 pivot into agentic advertising, including an open-source sales agent and a DevTools module letting AI coding agents read live auction state.

19 groups ask EU to re-insert the cookie banner fix Google lobbied out

A coalition of 19 civil society groups, businesses and academics published an open letter urging EU institutions to reinstate Article 88b of the Digital Omnibus, which was removed from the Council's text in June 2026 after industry lobbying. The provision would require websites and apps to honor automated browser-based privacy signals, potentially eliminating most cookie banners, and the letter includes a six-condition annex covering consent validity, gatekeeper neutrality, and persistence of refusal signals.

PPC Land

Explaining MCP

This article explains the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard originally published by Anthropic in November 2024 and now governed by the Agentic AI Foundation, that lets AI applications discover and call external tools via a client-server architecture over JSON-RPC. It traces MCP's rapid adoption across advertising platforms (Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, X, Adform) and related standards like AdCP and AAMP, while flagging unresolved issues around security, token costs, and diverging read-only versus write-access governance policies.
